On the morning of Thursday, June 18, a young man from Jacksonville was experiencing tire problems and stopped to ask a service man for help. The service man finished assisting a FedEx truck and agreed to help the 23-year-old. The young man was driving toward the nearest exit on I-95 north in Volusia County near State Road 442 when he became stranded in the right lane.

Although his hazard lights were on, the young man’s Honda was struck by a tractor-trailer carrying Amazon packages. Tragically, he was killed in the crash. The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is currently investigating the accident, which also resulted in minor injuries for the truck driver and about 200 gallons of diesel fuel spilled on the roadway.

The two right lanes of I-95 north were closed on Thursday morning, and WKMG News 6 asked drivers to slow down and be mindful of traffic cones during the road closure and FHP investigation.
